Temple hopping

My time in Cambodia is divided into two parts: visiting temples and attending a symposium hosted by the World History Association.

I my first two days I have visited about half a dozen major temples mostly built about 900 years ago, which is about the same time as the construction of the European cathedrals. Some were Hindu temples, some were Buddhist, and some were changed from one to another by later rulers. This shift from one religion to another reminded me of the churches of Constantinople that were changed to mosques after the Turks took over.

I am not using local guides because most of the time I am traveling with experts on Asian religions and architecture. I am not quite at the level yet of recognizing the various stories from Hindu scriptures or Buddhist legends, but I am learning a huge amount of information.
